Kitchen shelf made from Oak

Kitchen shelf made from Oak

After participating in the carpenter class I have just build an oiled kitchen shelf myself.

I have ordered the wood already long before I participated in the carpenter class. It is oak from Coop Bau und Hobby: Leimholzplatte Eiche 18 mm Quality is not the very best, ok, but the only wood I was able to easily get at that time and was easy to handle for me with the available machines.

The shelf should look as outlined in the SketchUp drawing. Based on that drawing I have odered the material

I assembled the woodedn boards using biscuit joints. I have learned how to deal with the biscuit jointer in the carpenter class and applied the learned in that project.

Clamps help to get the neeede pressure to keep the shelf together.

The first layer of oil consists of a transparent oil provided by the austrian furniture manufacturing company TEAM7. What I learned from that project that I should have oiled the wood pieced before the gluing and masked the joints with masking tape before gluing.

The second layer consists of TEAM7 oild with white pigmets to better match the look of our white oak look of the kitchen furniture

To mount the shelf to the wall I used Gedotec mounting rails Befestigt habe ich das Regal mit folgendem Produkt von Gedotec: (https://amzn.to/31EIuqU)

After mounting the shelf I could even though it was mounted only 5mm away from the wall look behind it. Well usually noonne should be annoyed by that but I was. To give the shelf a professional finish I added brush type of seal as you can see in the following pictures.

The final product

I think the final product turned out good. I learned a lot which I will influence the next designs I"m already planning to do in the future.

Towel hanger

After the shelf was mounted the first accessory had to be added only a couple of hours later. I needed a hanger for a towel. Since I didn’t want to screw a hook from underneath the shelft directly into the wood I created a clamp kind of accessory which is shown in the pictured below.
