After some time of thinking and preparation I finally started my own youtube channel. Following this link to my channel where I’m going to describe and show you how I do my woodworking projects. I will start my videos without much talking but showing the objects I work on out of a perspective where it makes sense for the viewer to best follow the steps I do.
As a continuation of the drawer inserts which I’m showing in the photo gallery and the inspiration out of Matt Kenneys book “52 Boxes in 52 Weeks” I have crafted a couple of boxes in the past few weeks and I have improved my skills a lot.
After I finished the wall cup board it was time to continue the living room furniture crafting with the high board/cupboard. The high board should consist of three parts of a size of 240cm in widht and 120cm in height. The first part of the highboard should be placed underneath the wall cupboard which was already described in a previous blogpost. Furthermore the highboard should contain a dedicated space for out Jura coffee machine.
The original idea for this wall cupboard comes from Heiko Rech. He did an online course to build an in german called “Kleines Hängeschränkchen” on his website where he describes how to craft this small wall furniture out of waltnur and maple. I watched that online course since I was interested in building small furniture out of lumber. After watching more videos provided by him sich as building a cupboard and how to do veneering I decided to combine some of the presented techniques and build my version of the wall cupboard. Sounds a bit too much and at the end I even added another detail to the cupboard, but it turned out great and I learned a lot.
I started using a Kärcher WD5 premium industrial vaccum cleaner as dust collector in my shop which we used while do the renovation of our house. Quickly I had ideas to use a cyclone to better separate the chips and sawdust. I ordered a cyclone from bangood but finally used a dust collector from Triton.
Inspired by the logos Andy from Andys Werkstatt adds to his projects, I asked him where he gets his logos manufactured. He sent me the link to Lasergravur-Engelmann and I ordered a small batch of samples in 20mm diameter:
After I tried a couple of helpers to use a hand operated circular saw in a type of jig to cur small pieces of wood, I decided to build a cross-cut-sled, finally. Since I had an INCRA Build-It Starterkit around, which I ordered from Dieter Schmidt Feine Werkzeuge,
The bedside table should look similar to the sketch I created with Sketchup
I have ordered the wood already long before I participated in the carpenter class. It is oak from Coop Bau und Hobby: Leimholzplatte Eiche 18 mm Quality is not the very best, ok, but the only wood I was able to easily get at that time and was easy to handle for me with the available machines.
The idea joining a carpeter course was born while having an afterwork beer with an old friend Alex Suzuki, who has already applied to that course. That said it was kind of a no-brainer to apply as well. I booked one of the open seats for toe Carpenter 1-2-3 course, a full day course, to get used to woodworking at ‘Schreinerei Eltschinger’ in Rheinfelden/Switzerland.
